Rather than a single Olympic Park, the LA28 Games will be organised into several distinct Zones.

Some Zones are action-packed, featuring multiple disciplines and medal events, while others focus on a single sport and leverage the city’s existing world-class infrastructure.

In this series, The 1461 deconstructs these key hubs, providing an overview of the venues and sports that will take place in each Zone.

The busiest Zone is the DTLA Zone. Just north of the Exposition Park Zone with ten different sports taking place within it across four venues:

• DTLA Arena
• LA Convention Center
• Dodger Stadium
• Peacock Theater

DTLA Arena

During the 2028 Summer Olympics, over thirty Gold medals will be awarded in the DTLA Arena, also known as the Crypto.com Arena, split almost equally between Gymnastics, including Trampolining, and Boxing.

Boxing almost missed out on the 2028 Olympics after not being included in the initial programme. However, an IOC vote in 2024 reinstated the sport, with 14 medals up for grabs in 2028.

That year, Lewis Richardson won Great Britain’s only boxing medal of the Games, Bronze in the 71kg event.

While the preliminary stages will be held at the Peacock Theater, the Final Stages will be held at the DTLA Arena.#

In Artistic Gymnastics, 15 medals will be awarded in 2028, with Great Britain aiming to improve on the two it won in 2024, after Harry Hepworth and Jake Jarman took bronze medals in Vault and Floor, respectively.

Great Britain also finished fourth in both the Men’s and Women’s Team all-around., while there were also fourth-place finishes for Jarman in the Vault, and Max Whitlock in the Pommel horse.

Gymnastics medals will be awarded every day from July 17-26, with both Trampolining medals awarded on July 21.

In 2024, Bryony Page completed an Olympic set in Trampolining, adding Gold to the Bronze in Tokyo 2020 and Silver in Rio 2016 after her victory in the Women’s Event. This made her the first British female individual Olympic champion in gymnastics.

After the Summer Olympics come the Summer Paralympics, with the DTLA Arena hosting Wheelchair Basketball.

Great Britain’s men will be looking to improve on their silver medal from 2024, having medalled in six of the last eight Summer Paralympics. However, they’ve never won gold, winning two silvers and four bronzes.

LA Convention Center

During the 1984 Olympic Games, the LA Convention Center served as the Main Press Headquarters. In 2028, the Center will see action split between three Halls.

Hall 1

There will be daily medals from July 15-23 in the Fencing before action in Hall 1 switches to Taekwondo from July 26-29.

Across these two sports, GB won just one medal, with Caden Cunningham securing Silver in the Men’s +80kg Taekwondo.

Great Britain has more medal prospects in the Para Taekwondo and Wheelchair Fencing.

Two goals in Para Taekwondo went the way of Matt Bushi in the +80kg event and Amy Truesdale in the +65kg event. Then, in the Wheelchair Fencing, Great Britain won six medals, including two golds for Dimitri Coutya in the Class B Individual épée and Individual Foil.

Hall 2

Two combat sports will take place in Hall 2 during the Summer Olympics, with Judo and Wrestling.

Team GB won no medals in Judo at the 2024 Olympics; however, it did record two medals at the Paralympics – a silver and a bronze – in Para Judo.

Wrestling will also take place in Hall 2. It is one of the sports receiving the least funding from UK Sport, with recent British representation scant; only four British wrestlers have qualified for the Games since 1988.

Boccia, a sport with no Olympic equivalent, will take place in Hall 2 during the Paralympics. Great Britain’s Stephen McGuire won Gold in the Men’s individual BC4 event in Paris.

Hall 3

Finally, Hall 3 is devoted to Table Tennis and Para Table Tennis, the latter of which saw Team GB win five medals – two silver and three bronzes – at the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympics.

Dodger Stadium

Not only is Dodger Stadium the third-oldest MLB stadium, but it’s also the largest baseball stadium in the world by seat capacity.

In 1984, with Baseball part of the games as a demonstration sport, Japan beat the United States with all games held at Dodger Stadium

That will be the case once again in 2028, with ten games taking place there. There will be two groups of three teams, each playing two games in a round-robin Preliminary Stage.

This will start on July 13, and after taking a break the following day for the Opening Ceremonies, two matches will take place each day at 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. local time. The Quarterfinals take place on July 17 and the Semifinals on July 18. The medal matches will both take place on July 19.

Peacock Theater

The last venue forming part of the DTLA Zone is the Peacock Theater. One of the largest indoor stages in the United States, it has hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards since 2008. It has also hosted the Grammys in 2008 and 2011, and the American Museum Awards from 2007 to 2022.

In 2025, it hosted the NHL Entry Draft, and in 2028, it will host the preliminary stages of boxing and weightlifting at the 2028 Summer Olympics. At the Paralympics, it will host the Goalball tournament.

In 2024, Emily Campbell won Bronze in the Women’s Super Heavyweight category, adding to the Silver she won in Tokyo four years prior.
